The Trees of Life Sculpture and Multimedia Installation Series on Governor's Island with Figment Arts 2014 - Friday Preliminary Setting Up
With a beautiful day dawning my crew and I set about the task of setting up the Trees of Life.
There would be some 22 wrap Sculptures over an acre on two locations for the coming 3 days on Nolan Park and Colonels Row. They would include the Mirror Tree Sculpture, variations of which included the Selfie Mirror Tree, the Wrap-app Tree which communicated vis a vis camera phone scanner where to send your Selfie, and in combination the Wrap-App Selfie Mirror Tree Sculpture. Several of my Enigma Trees in Pink, Turquoise, Iris, Vermilion, and Purple...the Zebra Tree and the Betty Boop...also original Painted and Line Series Trees from years past included pieces from my first years 2008 and 2009 on Governor's Island with Figment Arts. The adoption of the Name Tree.
The crowds swelled to record numbers ( some 14, 000 on Saturday alone...25,oo over the weekend) I was very happy to interact and deliberate with a great number of fans, grateful that so many knew of my work and its travels here in New York, in Boston and Philadelphia and Australia, the great Figment curatorial teams...Kay, Lisa, David, Burt...
Here is an introduction.
The patterns of my Trees over the wide areas configured and implied a natural variety of diamonds, hexagons and octagons, inter plays of shadows and light, sometimes impressionistic, others times minimal, playful, without imposing specific orders.
Of course the people of all ages, shapes and sizes and color and costumes would come to define the interactive reality and beauty of this great New York art festival.
