The Scream by Edvard Munch 1893
at Sotherbys Auction House New York City May/2012
Casein/Waxed Crayon and Tempera on Cardboard 35" x 29"

Many of us as younger Artists were touched by the visceral integrity of Edvard Much's work in general and in Particular his searing artworks the Cry or Scream.
Life brings us to Experience which we Would not have Chosen
But which in some ways were Chosen for Us...

Soyuz Looking Down on Earth From Space

Where....
Crystalized Tears and Ash Summon within Us a  Great Convergence of Despair...
A Place where all old Poetry and Song
 Shattered,
In Reflection...
Fallen to Pieces

Of Voice...
Demonstrating for peace in Damascus, Syria
Syrian Protesters in Damascus with Sign Reading
"Stop the Killing: We want to build a Country for all Syrians"
May./2012

Gone Silent and Rogue with our Well-being...

Neither Tortoise or Hare finding Their Way Home
An Abyss Profound, Beautiful and Terrifying all At Once

Choices made for Us
By a Dizzy Crayon on  an old Piece of Cardboard
or Tattered Shirt

Choices made despite Us
Deaf  to our Eucliean Pleadings
Either to Fall...Pleading
Narratives with Quixotic Spiritual Paths
or
To Rise Anew...
Infinitely Transformed...

In Touch with War and Peace...

In the Balance

An Elegance Whisper...
The Answer in the Wind was Yes...Yes
and Yes Again

I was to concentrate on the Figure inside the Mouth of the Screamer. A Muted Scream made so by the many conflicted feelings surrounding the Events of 9/11. From the rooftop of my Harlem Studio I see for many weeks the smog Rising from the Ashes of the Twin Towers.
I had held Kay in tightly my arms as the second Tower Fell  - Live on the Television that Morning and for a Moment that lasted some Thousand Years...I waited for the Blast to Destroy the rest of the City...the Aftershock did not manifest itself...but the Psychic Shockwave had shattered the Calm Within.

There would be a Peace at hand.

A Time to have Fun Again in a Joycean Way
A Finnegan's Wake
Reawakening...
Joy
Where New Circles would Flow into New Circles,
The Tortoise and the Hare finding Meaning Again
Aesop and Poesa
Stitched Back into the Kind Child
Dolls with Cheshire Smiles...

A new Generation Already...
All ready for what Tales we Have to Tell them

Like the Tortoise and the Hare...
Aesop and Poesa

A Little Humor
That did not Mock
Much Reminded Us
That we Could Smile
Even Laugh Again...
Yes...Yes...Yes
was the answer was the Echo...

"Nature is not only all that is Visible to the Eye...
it also includes the inner pictures if the Soul"
-Edvard Munch

"For as long as I can Remember I have suffered from a deep feeling of anxiety which I have tried to express in my art. Without anxiety and illness I should have been like a ship without a rudder."
